Unfortunately, the MA Remote app does not support OS under Android 8.0.
Yes the element i supports toslink input and playback music files from an external HDD. The music files would be transfered through the USB connection, but you still need to connect the element i to your network, so that you can browse the contents in the HDD and control the playback through the app.
