X-SPDIF 3 - USB bus power spec is 1000mA
#1
Hi @LI HUI @Wei Cao

On the Matrix website for X-SPDIF3 it says: "USB bus power supply: 5V/1000mA

That doesn’t make any sense.

1000mA is more than USB3 spec (900mA)

And the X-SPDIF 3 USB port looks to be USB2.0 port (500mA)

Can you please clarifiy and update the wesbite ?

Dear John,
Thanks for your feedbacks.
In actual implementation on most of the computers, the ability of USB power is higher than 500mA and 900m. A lot of USB devices requires higher than 5V/500mA power, but they actually comsume less power.
For example, a USB CD drive usually declare it requires 5V/1.5A power, but it works flawlessly on a USB 2.0 port without external power supply.
So does the X-SPDIF3, the X-SPIDIF3 will not consume so much power from the USB port actually.

The following device is a CD drive from Lenovo, it works fine on a USB 2.0 port.

Ok thanks Wei.

So X-SPDIF 3 is confirmed to work perfectly ok with USB 2.0 port ? There is no requirement for USB 3.0 port or USB-PD port ?

Is X-SPDIF 3 still in production ? I see many Matrix sellers showing out of stock for this product

Yes, the X-SPDIF3 is still in production.

I have not heard of any compatibility issue of the X-SPDIF3 with USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, but I don't know if it is compatible with PD port.

My question is more about power requirement - USB 2.0 500mA is enough for X-SPDIF 3 to full function correctly ?

We don't need to provide more power with USB 3 or USB-PD power ?

Ok thanks LI

Maybe the website should replace the 1000mA mentioned and just state USB 2.0 500mA port

To avoid this confusion
