Does AirPlay support audio sampling rates higher than 44.1kHz? / How can I play Apple Music losslessly?

At present, all the Matrix models that support AirPlay (including AirPlay and AirPlay 2) their sampling rate at AirPlay is 44.1kHz.

If you would like to playback high resolution music from Apple Music and Apple devices losslessly, USB connection is a better choice. Some configurations and settings need to be done on the iPhone or iPad.

1. Make sure the version of iOS or iPadOS is v14.6 or higher, keep your Apple Music app up to date. Enter the Settings menu of the iPhone or iPad, find Music.

2. Enable "Lossless Audio" in "Audio Quality". According to your preference and phone data plan, set options Cellular Streaming, WLAN Streaming and Download to Lossless or Hi-Res Lossless.

3. To connect an iPhone or some earlier iPad to Matrix DACs, you need a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. The newer iPad has a USB Type-C port, it can be connected to Matrix DACs over regular USB cables with correct connectors.

4. Set the input channel of Matrix DAC to USB Audio, then play music from the Apple device. You'll see the sampling rate of the current playing track on the device display.

5. Check the Playing page from the Apple music app, a Hi-Res Lossless or Lossless badge will be displayed, which indicates that the lossless audio is playing. Tap on the badge, you'll see the original sampling rate of this music.
