X-SABRE 3 has built-in digital volume control. It works with amplifiers and active speakers which have no volume control.
If a separated pre-amplifier is added to the setup mentioned above, it will help to improve the sound quality, especially the dynamic range of the sound when the output volume is at a lower level.
