SABRE PRO MQA: I2S vs USB - Giovanni - 02-16-2020
Hi all people.
My new front end is so assembled:
COCTAIL AUDIO X 50 D +SABRE PRO MQA
Some considerations about the connections
I2 S. (audioquest cinnamon HDMI 1 m)
Cocktail don't recognize the DAC (no device)
PCM and DSD are correctly performed
MQA is detected as PCM 24-96
USB
Coctail recognize SABRE PRO MQA
PCM and DSD are correctly performed
MQA is detected as MQA but at 16-96
The sound is a bit more sweet with I2S but more detailed with USB.
What connection is the best choice?

IIS connection is not two-way communication ports, so front end device could not recognize DACs via IIS cable (HDMI cable)
MQA only could be handled through USB connection.
which is better, it may related to your preferences.

I upgraded the firmware at 2.7 version
what about the 3.1 version? Is disappeared in the download section.

Hi Giovanni
The version number 2.7 is indicating MCU firmware, and the v3.0.3 is version number of XMOS.
You can open the DFU tool (included in the installer package https://www.matrix-digi.com/drivers/Matrix_Audio_All_Driver.rar) connect the device to your windows computer, the version number will be displayed. If your XMOS firmware is lower than 3.0.1, you can update it following the instructions (part 2) here.
